Sasaguri Town is located west of Fukuoka City in Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyushu.
There are many sightseeing spots in the area, including a pilgrimage (ohenro) around the 88 Sacred Sites of Sasaguri Shikoku, one of Japan’s three “Major New Shikoku Pilgrimages,” modeled after the 88 Sacred Sites of Shikoku, and a grove of large cedars known as Yamato-no-Mori Forest on Mt. Wakasugiyama.
It is also home to charming attractions such as forest therapy in lush green woodlands and the beautiful night view from Mt. Komenoyama.

Worshippers who tour these temples associated with Kobo-Daishi Kukai are called “ohenro-san” (pilgrims). As with the original Shikoku pilgrimage, the Sasaguri Shikoku pilgrimage is said to fulfill one’s wishes if one visits all 88 sites, and to date, many people have made the journey. In recent years, many people make the journey as a form of self-discovery, in search of peace of mind.
